Environments are heterogeneous in time and space, and I use natural populations of butterflies
to study the ecological and evolutionary consequences of environmental heterogeneity.
Specifically, my work focuses on how spatial and temporal variation in host plant availability
affects the evolution of ecological specialisation in these herbivorous insects.
I am also interested in phenotypic plasticity, and its role in adaptation and diversification.
I received my M.Sc. from Leiden University (NL) and a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge (UK). After a postdoctoral fellowships at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (PT), the University of Helsinki (FI), and the University of Zurich (CH), I now work at the University of Lisbon (PT).
